Words for 2007: "Tough Times and New Birth" and "The Splendour of God"
By Martin CookeTough Times and New Birth
The tough times that happen are not a reflection of our standing with Jesus, our need for judgement or our disapproval by Him. Rather they are the contortions happening upon the world as a woman in labour travails to bring forth children. The church is involved with the world or it would be without compassion and understanding for others in trouble, therefore Christians must also suffer in a measure .Think not “God has deserted me.” Know that even as Christ was ` deserted` for a season by his Father, so it can seem at times that God has deserted His church. But in these times the Church seeks God more earnestly and clings to their Saviour more. The result is much more fruit and a turning of attitude of many in the world. For at this time many will begin to seek God who never seriously considered before that He had a part in their lives. The Church must be ready to provide the necessary answers.
The Splendour of God
No longer will it seem as if we have to prop the church up and make it work, because God’s Church is strengthened from within and operates through and by the Holy Spirit. Only when we are willing to step out of God’s way and allow Him to move do we recognise that the Church is the work of God, is supported by Him and lives by Him. God has no need of our support; rather we are a hindrance to His working. When we allow the splendour of God to uphold His Church, His splendour will also be seen by those outside who would only otherwise see the work of men.
