Somerset is an ancient place. It has the most ancient above ground church in Europe, in Glastonbury. It has the oldest engineered track, the Sweet Way and it also has the oldest prison, in Shepton Mallet.
Glastonbury was one of the first places that the early Christian Celts settled in. They became a community and spread out from there. The Anglo-Saxon Christians also decided that Somerset was a place of mission. It was a place where some of the first preaching of the gospel took place.
The county draws those that are hungry for the spiritual, it has a unique history. This region remains a place of mission today. Somerset raised evangelist Alex Bowler has recently launched the Alex Bowler Evangelistic Association (A.B.E.A.); see our links to visit his website. His vision is to see large venues and stadiums full for the preaching of the gospel.
